Liam Payne Makes it Clear That The One Direction Reunion is Never Going to Happen and Here’s Why

If you want any tea on any member of One Direction, Liam Payne will come sprinting with information- his version of grabbing on to the mere strings of fame he has left.  He’s recently released some personal information about former band mates and One Direction in his podcast interview with Logan Paul on the Impaulsive podcast.  “In the band we (Louis and Liam ) hated each other.  Like, to come to blows hate each other, it was close,” he shared.  He also revealed that he has a “dislike” for Zayn and talked about how Zayn’s family were not supportive.

In one of the most outrageous takes, Liam added that he was the reason One Direction came to fruition.  “Part of the reason One Direction was made because of Simon’s promise to me that in two years he said he would make this work for me.” Liam Payne had previously auditioned for X factor in the past and was sent home by Simon Cowell, a judge on the show (and renowned botox King).  Perhaps Liam is looking past the fact that he couldn’t make it on his own.  He also made a comment on his song “Strip That Down” and how it, according to him, “got a billion streams.  I think it outsold everybody within the band.”  This statement is laughably false.

There was a lack of class shown in this interview, and not just from the classless Paul brother hosting the show.  Other members of the band, Harry Styles specifically, have avoided talking badly (or talking at all) about their past, so it was shocking to hear what Liam had to say.  Throughout the interview Liam is holding a glass of whiskey making it clear that he’s no longer sober. As a fan, it’s difficult to hear the words Liam had to say in this interview, whether they were whiskey induced or not.  While members of the band have previously spoken out about not exactly getting along, they have never talked about any member’s personal life or have made any of the big-headed comments Liam did.

But was this always the case?  Members of the band talking badly about each other, beef with other members, jealousy and competition? In the brief moments of stillness right before the band members went their separate ways, it was almost as if each of them had been given a chance to start over.  They were each blank slates, once bubblegum pop teen heartthrob robots to the industry, and now- what were they but just young men with talent and knack for singing.  Oh, and of course a loyal fan base of millions.  Their individualistic stardom was inevitable after the break up, but they had a choice in whether or not to remain in One Direction’s shadow or become something brighter.

They have all released their own solo albums (some more successful than others).  Harry Styles has certainly made a name for himself outside of the boyband shackles of One Direction, having just released his third album Harry’s House this past month and having his songs top the charts.  Louis Tomlinson is currently on a tour, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik are both working on their own individual projects and then there’s Liam Payne, who’s last album did horribly on the charts.

It appears that the ex band members are farther apart than we once thought.  Since the break up, the world has gotten to know each member of the band as individuals, from the type of music they make to who they are.  I hate to say it, but now that we know who Liam, Louis, Niall, Zayn and Harry are it’s obvious that they were never really friends and that they are too different for a come back.

As One Direction have grown up, their fans have grown up with them.  I too, as an optimistic One Direction loving thirteen year old, believed that the band were all friends and would all remain friends.  But a friendship forged out of the flames of pre-pubescent fame is hard to maintain, that much has been made clear.  We can all hope for a reunion and an end to the hiatus that was only supposed to last 18 months but that reunion seems further and further away as the years pass by.  Perhaps it’s best to just keep One Direction as a memory.
